Coat, Mane, Tail and Everyday Comfort
Explore an attentive approach to grooming, with practical guidance on tools, gentle routines, cleanliness and noticing your horse’s comfort.
In development — not yet available to purchase
Grooming is more than making a coat look tidy. It is also a chance to pay attention to the horse, choose suitable tools and notice when an everyday routine needs to change.
Grooming with Care introduces the purpose of common grooming equipment and explores coat, mane and tail care with comfort at the centre. Learn why a safe working space, clean equipment and an unhurried approach matter, and consider how weather, management and individual sensitivity affect what is appropriate.
A section on hoof-care awareness explains what belongs in routine observation and what needs practical instruction or professional attention. The guide supports supervised learning; it does not replace a demonstration of handling, restraint or picking up feet.
Beginners and returning horse carers who want a considerate approach to routine grooming.
It does not diagnose illness, prescribe a ration or a turnout plan, or replace a demonstration from a competent person. Practical tasks such as leading, tying and lifting feet need in-person instruction and safe equipment.
Planned contents. Pagination may change during production.
Grooming should be adapted to the horse, not rushed through as a fixed sequence. Notice how your horse responds to touch and stop if they seem uncomfortable. A change in response may have several causes, including pain. Ask an experienced professional for help rather than pushing through resistance.
Note the tool used, your horse’s response and one adjustment you would discuss with your supervisor.

General educational information. Not a substitute for veterinary advice or supervised practical instruction. Horse handling and practical care skills need suitable in-person instruction from a competent person, and young readers need adult supervision. Care varies with the individual horse: nothing here prescribes a ration, turnout plan, bedding system or routine for every horse, and no guide diagnoses illness. If you suspect pain, illness or a concerning change, contact your vet or the responsible professional promptly. A completed checklist is not proof that a horse is healthy, and no part of this collection has been reviewed by a qualified equine professional yet.
Everyday care. A better understanding.
